Why were children movies in the 80s so messed up? Think Labryinth, The Last Unicorn, Watership Down, Garbage Pail Kids. And, of course, The Dark Crystal.
I feel like I have to make my children watch these same movies, so they can grow up with a wicked sense of humor and strong imagination, just like me and my husband. My 9 year old son's initial reaction when he wanted to watch "the bunny movie" before Easter with his brother and their subsequent reaction asking, "What was that?" afterwards definitely made me think I was on the right track with Watership Down. They have also already seen The Last Unicorn (I blame my husband for that one) and The Dark Crystal (because, Jim Henson is a genius). And Garbage Pail Kids is never allowed in my house. I have some parenting decency!
But when I heard that Netflix announced a prequel to The Dark Crystal, I was just in awe! They are going to start filming The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance in the Fall for a 10-episode fantasy adventure series that takes place many years before the events of the original film.
“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will combine the art of puppetry perfected by The Jim Henson Company, with Louis’ vision, powerful storytelling and a mix of cutting-edge digital imagery and visual effects,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix. “I can’t wait for families around the world to see how we bring these unique characters to life.”
