WORM FACTORY: Go Green with Worms

The Mom Buzz loves green ideas! Anything we can do to not "mess up the world" too much for our kids is a great idea. When I see how much trash I throw away I think, "How long will this take to disintegrate in a landfill?" Diapers, straws, plastic - it all just sits for eons. But the truth is, we can minimize our waste - and the Worm Factory can help.

The Worm Factory® is made by Cascade Manufacturing Sales, Inc. Located in Bellingham Washington, 90 miles north of Seattle. The company was founded in 2003 and was established to create eco-friendly products of superior quality and value. Their goal is to help reduce society's overall impact on the earth.
The Worm Factory uses worms to compost kitchen scraps, paper and cardbard into a nutrient-rich "worm juice" that will do wonders fertilizing your garden! Plants thrive with this compost!
The Worm Factory uses a unique stackable, multi-tray design. Worms eat the waste in the lowest tray and then migrate upward as food sources in that tray are exhausted, separating themselves from the finished compost that is ready for the garden.
As waste is broken down, moisture filters through your factory of worms, dragging nutrient-rich particles with it. This liquid fertilizer (leachate) gathers in a special collection tray of the Worm Factory and can easily be drained from the spigot.
I think this is a fabulous, fun idea. I am positive my boys would love to have pet worms eating their garbage. And our garden would love it too!
