New Year's Party: Silver Dolphin Books

I love books. Keegan and Lochlan already have an extensive library filled with Gossie, Sandra Boynton, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and many other favorites. So when I was introduced to Silver Dolphin Books, who publishes books for the 0 - 12 year age range, I was thrilled. But when the books arrived... I was MORE than thrilled. I was in AWE.
Creative. Unique. Memorable. Affordable.
Now, I have 9 books that I had the opportunity to experience firsthand. So I am going to chat about them in order of recommended age.
6 - 18 monthsRainbow Fun: Although Rainbow Fun is recommended for ages 6 to 18 months, there is no problem introducing this board book from birth ... or even starting in utero if you or your hubby likes to read to your belly! Rather than a traditional rainbow, this one is circular with each page having a cut out. Every time you turn the page, you are introduced to a new, bright color with some fun rhyme and cute illustrations. Lochlan (1 year old) loved it! It cost $5.95.
3 years and up
Race Cars: This is a wonderful gift idea for a little boy! Easy reading and short sentences make it perfect for Keegan. Plus it's FUN as you can pop out a hot rod, a stock car and an Indy car and put four REAL wheels on them to make them go. If you need a gift idea for a toddler's birthday, definitely search for this one at Amazon, Borders or Barnes and Noble.
Dear Santa: I think this would be a great book to buy in October or November for your child, when Christmas is on their brain and they are trying to write their letter to Santa. Although Dear Santa is recommended for three and up, Keegan doesn't write quite yet. But it's great for a beginning writer, because after they read this sweet story, they can write their own letter to Santa with supplied stationary, snowman pen, envelopes and stickers!
5 years and upOceans: Wow. That's all I can say. This goes further than being just another pop-up story. The illustrations really come to life as the fish and other underwater creatures bedazzle the reader by changing colors and shimmering. Keegan LOVED it. But it is definitely better for older readers who aren't tempted to tear these pop-ups off the page!
8 years and up:
Uncover a Dolphin: This book is definitely unique. With every turn of a page you get to delve inside a 3-dimensional dolphin and get a great look at the anatomy. In the first page, you get to see the bone structure, then the organs, then the muscle. Meanwhile, each page offers interesting facts about the popular sea mammal.
Explore Within a Medieval Castle: Similar to Uncover a Dolphin, this book lets you go deeper and deeper into a medieval, 3- Dimensional Castle. It is actually a model that is build into the pages of the book! Plus you can learn about the walls, strategy, daily life and more!The Field Guide to Ocean Animals: Not only does your child get to learn about fascinating sea creatures and enjoy gorgeous illustrations, they can build them too! Assemble sharks, lion fish, an octopus and 5 other ocean animals - then let them swim in front of a removable diorama!
The Field Guide to Safari Animals: Once again, your child will be inundated with gorgeous illustrations of awesome safari animals, like lions, zebras and giraffes. Plus, they will have the opportunity to create 8 safari animals and play with them in front of a removable diorama!Model Masters Dragons: Okay - this one is MY FAVORITE. My sister and I LOVED dragons growing up. This kit comes with a 32 page book about different dragons. Then your child can build four small models and paint them. Everything they need to experience this kit is
supplied, even the paints and brushes. I am VERY excited to work on this with my niece and nephew and will share the outcome on the Mom Buzz.

These books all look so wonderful. My 8 year old son would love the ones in the giveaway as well as the Art Academy Sculpt It book from the website. He is not a big fan of painting, but he absolutely loves sculpting and he's pretty good at it. It would be great for him to get new ideas about how/what you can sculpt.
