Buzzworthy: Dapper Snappers

It's toddler time at the local library. As Keegan jumps up and down to "shake your sillies out" his Gap jeans go lower and lower showing off his Diego underpants. Sure, it's cute and the moms get a chuckle. But hiking up his pants with every jump, wiggle and shake can get a little tiring when all your toddler wants to do is groove and move. And I know I am not the only mom with this problem.

Toddlers come in so many shapes and sizes, when you try to accommodate length, you usually add an extra inch to the waistband, an inch many of our toddlers don't need. Or you might have a kid like Keegan - short and very skinny. He is 33 inches, 25 pounds and 2.5 years old. There aren't too many shorts and pants that fit that tiny waist of his.

So, when I heard about Dapper Snappers, I was super excited. The concept is similar to the Carters Adjustable Waist Pants. You know, that little bit of elastic inside Carter's pants that you can button tighter. That's great...if your child is wearing Carters. But we have more than that brand in Keeg's closet and the Dapper Snapper allows him to wear all of his pants.

All you have to do is loop a Dapper Snapper through the belt buckles on the back of the pants. There are two snap options there, so you can get it as snug as needed. The elastic band tightens the pants allowing them to stay where they belong, on your toddlers behind! Plus, when you change pants, just move the Dapper Snapper to the new outfit. All you really need is 2 or 3 Dapper Snappers in colors that best match your toddlers outfits and your toddler is ready to play!

What I love about Dapper Snappers is that once they are on, you really can't tell you added something "different" to the outfit. They blend right in! But, if you want to accessorize the Dapper Snapper, you have that option with cute Snapcessories, hand made felt and rhinestone embellishments by Serindipity Designs. There are basketballs, bears, frogs, flowers and more!

So, if you want to help your toddler jump his jiggles out, while his pants stay in place, consider adding Dapper Snappers to your mommy-knows-best arsenal.

Health Buzz: Introducing "Problem" Foods

I'll never forget the first time Keegan had honey. We were at a birthday party for my Sister-in-Law. I was 7 months pregnant with Lochlan, and feeling exhausted. My picky-eater Keegan has decided he will only eat the fruit bowl. He was acting so giddy, I joked and asked if the fruit was marinated in brandy.

"Nope," my sister-in-law answers. "Honey."

Oh. My. God. I went ballistic. "Honey" was on my list of foods to avoid. I didn't know why, I just knew that little ones shouldn't have it. Everyone except my sister-in-law's husband looked at me like I had two heads. But he recalled hearing something similar, so he searched online. Phew. We were safe. Honey is okay to introduce after the age of 1. Keegan was 16 months.

Now, I know I can not be the only person who might look at a strawberry or a shrimp and wonder when it is really "okay" to give certain foods to babies and toddlers. So I did some research online and compiled a list of common allergen or problem foods and the age you can introduce them:

8 Months: Meat

9 Months:
Egg Yolk, Soy, Cheese, Yogurt, Milk, Legumes

1 Year: Egg whites, Fish, Tomatoes, Citrus fruits, Strawberries, Honey*

* A note about honey. You don't want to give a baby under 12 months honey, because honey may contain botulism spores which can lead to botulism poisoning. Adults can eat honey, because our intestines contain enough acids to counteract the production of toxins the botulism bacteria produce.

1 - 3 Years: Peanut Butter**

**Peanuts are a common, dangerous food allergen. The reason there is an age range for the time you can introduce peanut butter is because it truly varies, depending on your family history. You will want to delay introducing Peanut Butter if:
  • Anyone in your child's family has a food allergy
  • Anyone in your family has an allergic type disorder (asthma, eczema)
  • Your child has had a food allergy in the past
But, if there is no history of allergies in your family, then you can introduce peanut butter when your child turns 1.

1 - 2 Years: Shellfish***

***Shellfish can be a high allergen food. Like peanuts, delay it as long as possible if anyone has allergies in your family.

If you have a family history of food allergies, be careful when introducing any of these foods. If your baby exhibits a reaction to any food, wait a few months before trying it again and consult your pediatrician.

If you want a chart that you can print out with similar information, I found one at Wholesome Baby Food.

Blogger Buzz: Busy Mom

Today's Blogger Buzz is Busy Mom. What a mouthful that is to say! I really took notice of her FABULOUS site back in October. She has such a professional touch to her reviews, while still adding in a great mix of the personal so you really get to know the mom behind the blog. Now, you can get to know her a little better too!

*****
Tell me a little about Busy Mom.
Busy Mom is a site to help make all Busy Mom's lives easier. We have tips, recipes, product and site reviews, boutique and blog listings, and contests! We are also going to have a few feature bloggers write about "going green," "crafty things," among others.

Do you have a favorite post?
I love all my contests! I wish I could enter them!

Do you have advice for Busy Mom and The Mom Buzz readers?
One piece of advice I would give to my readers is: You are a busy mom, but don't forget about yourself! In the future we are planning to have "me time," prizes which would be products just for moms, like: purses, gift certificates, chocolates, shoes, clothes, spa treatments, etc.

What's a must-read blog...besides Busy Mom?
A must read blog is a site that has all the information you are looking for and more. It all depends on the topic you are looking for. As a mom and blogger, some of my faves are momdot and restored316designs.

*****
Thank you for sharing a little about Busy Mom, Emily! I suggest everyone pop over there if you haven't yet... because Emily and I have a big, fun, fabulous, BUZZWORTHY event planned for all of our readers to kick-start the New Year. Plus, you can follow her on Twitter, so make sure all you Busy Moms add her and don't miss a Busy Mom moment!
